Meet Rachel Preheim. Rachel is an attorney at Lockwood and Zahrbock Kool Law Office.
A zealous advocate, Rachel specializes in criminal, divorce, and custody cases. With a background in public service, Rachel is a strong voice for her clients.
Rachel obtained her Bachelor of Art degree, summa cum laude, from the University of South Dakota in 2011 with dual majors in Criminal Justice and Communication Studies. She then obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota in 2015. During her law school career, Rachel was a certified intern at the Federal Public Defender for the District of South Dakota, Southern Division and the Minnehaha County Public Defender’s Office. Rachel was also a member of the Law School Moot Court Board and Trial Team.
Upon graduation, Rachel clerked for the Third Judicial Circuit of South Dakota, researching and writing for the judges while gaining practical knowledge. After completing her clerkship, Rachel zealously defended clients as a Public Defender for the 2nd Judicial Circuit for three years where she practiced in the magistrate and felony divisions. Rachel advanced her criminal litigation skills, becoming a Senior Deputy Public Defender. She has tried numerous jury trials throughout her time as a public defender, most notably obtaining an acquittal in an aggravated assault, 2nd degree kidnapping, and simple assault case.
Rachel’s main area of expertise is criminal law. She is passionate about protecting client’s in criminal cases, assisting them navigate the criminal justice system. Rachel will help you see the truth of the situation and weigh the options to resolve your case with you.
In addition to criminal law, Rachel focuses on divorce and custody cases. Rachel works with clients to gain an understanding of asset and debt division upon dissolution of a marriage. She also advocates for parents to retain custody and visitation rights so they can participate in the growth and development of their children.
Outside of the office, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family, teaching fitness classes, traveling, and spending time with her incredibly spoiled pups.
