I grew up in Volin, a small rural town in South Dakota, with my three younger siblings and my parents. After I graduated from Gayville-Volin High School I decided I needed to experience life, a bigger community, and to be away from home. I attended Mankato State University in Minnesota; however, after my first two years, I changed my major to Criminal Justice and Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. Since Mankato State didn’t offer Criminal Justice I decided to transfer back “home” to the University of South Dakota (USD).
After finishing my undergraduate degree in Vermillion I went on to attend Law school at USD. I graduated from Law school in 2003 and went on to work with the Minnehaha County Public Defenders Office where I gained valuable trial experience. In the spring of 2007, I made the transition to my private practice focusing on family law and criminal matters.
I am married with two daughters, in my spare time I enjoy scrap booking, walking and of course, shopping!

I was born and raised in Viborg, SD and grew up with my parents and older brother. My dad was the veterinarian and my mom managed his clinic and their family corporation businesses. They remained in Viborg until retirement. I graduated from Viborg in 1983 and then went to South Dakota State University (as my entire family had) to major in Political Science and Sociology.
After graduation I worked as a home based therapist and certified chemical dependency counselor for Children's Home Society. After three years I decided to follow my desire to become an attorney and I went to University of Tulsa for law school. After one year of school I married my husband and have been married for 20 years. We have five sons from the ages of seven to fourteen. In 1993 we moved back to Sioux Falls and I worked at the public defender's office until 1996. At that time I started my own practice and have consistently focused on criminal defense and family law matters.
